Since 2009, AvatariA has been known for its unique and uncompromising blend of black, death, gothic, and thrash metal. The Berlin-based band combines aggressive guitars, driving rhythms, and raw energy with dark melodies and atmospheric soundscapes. In doing so, the band deliberately moves beyond fixed genre boundaries and develops a sound that is equally brutal, melodic, and atmospheric.
AvatariA was founded in late 2009 by Tommy Avadark, who continues to shape the band's musical foundation as its vocalist and guitarist. What began as a musical project has evolved over the years into a fixture of Berlin's metal underground. Numerous releases and live performances demonstrate a continuous musical evolution without losing sight of the band's distinctive identity.
From the early dark and gothic metal influences of their first releases to today's blackened dark metal, a common thread runs through AvatariA's history: darkness, intensity, and the determination to continually push musical boundaries. Black metal meets death metal; melodic passages meet uncompromising heaviness; atmospheric moments meet driving riffs.
With releases such as The Matrix Falls, New World Order, The Last Falling, and Memoirs of Humanity, AvatariA has continuously evolved its sound. The EP Downfall, released in 2025, and the single Morpheus, released in 2026, mark more recent chapters in that evolution.
Live, AvatariA also delivers an intense blend of atmosphere and heaviness. The band brings its dark sound to the stage with a direct, powerful stage presence and appeals to anyone who doesn't pigeonhole metal. Fans of Behemoth, Samael, and Rotting Christ will find common ground here, as will listeners of dark, melodic, and atmospheric metal.
